Longsleeves & Sweater
On cool mornings, in changeable weather, or after a day on the water, long-sleeve shirts and sweaters provide a versatile additional clothing layer. Our functional long-sleeve shirts, Tec sweaters, and hoodies for women and men combine comfortable wear with freedom of movement and accompany sailors during training, at the yacht club, as well as during outdoor and leisure activities.
Marinepool Longsleeves & Sweater
Long-sleeve shirts and sweaters cover different requirements within sailing and leisure clothing. Lightweight long-sleeve shirts can be worn directly against the skin, over a T-shirt, or as a thin layer under a jacket. Sweaters and hoodies offer greater material thickness and are suitable when additional warmth is needed but a fully insulated jacket is not yet required.
Which style is suitable depends primarily on the weather, activity level, and how it will be worn. During active sailing or training, technical long-sleeve shirts support moisture transport and dry faster than classic cotton tops. At the yacht club, while travelling, or during leisure time, soft wearing comfort, an uncomplicated fit, and versatile combination options are often the main priorities.
A functional long-sleeve shirt is more than an ordinary long-sleeve top. Technical models are made from lightweight, stretch materials and, depending on the design, can offer breathable, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, or odour-inhibiting properties. This makes them suitable for active use on and around the water. Some long-sleeve shirts also offer integrated UV protection and can be worn as a standalone layer on sunny days.
Technical options include, for example, the Active 2 Longsleeve and the Premium Tec LS. They are suitable for active use where breathability, moisture management, and a movement-friendly fit are important. Models with a short zip also allow individual ventilation.
Classic long-sleeve shirts made from cotton or cotton blends have different priorities. They offer a soft feel against the skin and are particularly suitable for leisure, travel, crew clothing, and time at the yacht club. The Joylene Long-Sleeve Shirt Women is an example of this comfort-focused product group.
Long-sleeve polo shirts are also part of the category. They combine the additional coverage of a long-sleeve shirt with the smart appearance of a polo shirt. This makes them suitable for crew appearances, events, travel, and maritime leisure looks. Depending on the material, they can be functionally sporty or more focused on classic wearing comfort.
A sweater generally has more material thickness than a long-sleeve shirt and therefore provides additional warmth. Classic crew-neck sweatshirts can be easily worn over a T-shirt or polo. Tec sweaters, on the other hand, are made from lighter and more stretchable functional materials that better support active movement and are less bulky than heavy cotton sweatshirts.
The MP Malo Tec Sweater Jacket and the MP Maui Tec Sweater Hoodie are examples of technical sweaters that can be used as a lightweight midlayer or standalone top. The jacket version can be quickly opened using the full-length zip, while a pullover hoodie provides a consistent fit.
Hoodies add a practical hood and sporty cut to the category. Technical models such as the MP Horus Tec Hoodie and the corresponding Hoodie Jacket are designed for freedom of movement and active use. Classic sweat hoodies such as the Merlin Hoodie Jacket Men, on the other hand, place greater emphasis on comfort, leisure, and a stylish appearance.
Within a functional clothing system, a technical long-sleeve shirt can be worn as a close-fitting layer under fleece, softshell, or a sailing jacket. At moderate temperatures, a lightweight Tec sweater can serve as a midlayer. In dry conditions, sweaters and hoodies can also be worn on their own with Tec trousers, jeans, shorts, or sailing shoes.
When purchasing, material, fit, and intended use should be considered together. Lightweight, stretch, and quick-drying functional materials are suitable for sporting activities. At the yacht club, while travelling, or in everyday life, soft cotton blends may be the more comfortable choice. Models with zips can be adapted particularly flexibly to changing temperatures, while pullover long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies offer an uncomplicated and comfortable fit.

What Does Polygiene® mean?
Polygiene® is an odour-inhibiting treatment for textiles. It reduces the growth of odour-causing bacteria in the material, which can multiply particularly through sweat and prolonged wear.
-
The garment stays fresh for longer.
-
Odour formation in the material is reduced.
-
Less frequent washing may be possible.
-
The treatment does not replace regular cleaning.
-
The care instructions for the respective product remain decisive.
This treatment is particularly useful for technical long-sleeve shirts and long-sleeve polos worn during training, regattas, or multi-day events.
What Does Anti-Pilling Mean?
Pilling refers to small fibre knots that can form on the surface of a textile due to friction. Areas that regularly come into contact with bags, safety harnesses, or other clothing layers are particularly affected.
An anti-pilling finish is designed to reduce the formation of these knots and help the surface remain even for longer with regular use. However, it does not completely prevent wear. Gentle washing, closing zips, and following the care instructions can provide additional protection for the material surface.
Long-Sleeve Shirts and Sweaters in a Layering System
Depending on the material, long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, and hoodies can serve different purposes within a layering system.
Close-Fitting Layer
A technical long-sleeve shirt is worn directly against the skin or over thin functional underwear. It transports moisture away from the body and can be worn as a standalone top in warm weather.
Lightweight Midlayer
Tec sweaters and technical hoodies provide additional warmth in moderate temperatures. Thanks to their low bulk, they can often be worn under a softshell or sailing jacket.
Leisure and Outer Layer
Classic sweaters and cotton hoodies are suitable for the yacht club, marina, harbour promenade, or travel in dry conditions. In rain, spray, and strong wind, they should be combined with a suitable waterproof and windproof outer layer.
For active sailing days, combining them with functional Tec trousers or sailing trousers is recommended. At the yacht club and on land, long-sleeve shirts and sweaters can also be worn with shorts, jeans, chinos, or maritime sailing shoes.
Over 35 Years of Experience on the Water
Marinepool has been developing functional sailing apparel according to the principle “From Sailors for Sailors” since 1991. The brand was founded by active sailors and continues to work closely with sailing clubs, national teams, competitive sailing associations, and sea rescue organisations. The practical experience gained from these collaborations flows directly into product development – from technical sailing apparel to versatile long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, and hoodies for different areas of use.
Marinepool has been and continues to be a partner of numerous international regattas, sailing events, and top teams. These include the Austrian Sailing Federation, the Sailing Bundesliga, and the Bayerischer Yacht-Club. During training, competitions, and long days on the water, it becomes clear how important freedom of movement, moisture management, and flexibly combinable clothing layers are.
We apply this experience to functional long-sleeve shirts, Tec sweaters, and hoodies for women and men. Depending on the model, lightweight, stretch materials support moisture transport, while integrated UV protection, odour-inhibiting treatments, or insulating material constructions complement the respective use. This results in tops for active sailing, crew appearances, outdoor activities, travel, and relaxed hours at the yacht club.
Experience Meets Innovation
Marinepool combines maritime tradition with modern functional textiles and versatile cuts. Technical long-sleeve shirts are designed for active movement, quick drying, and a comfortable body climate. Tec sweaters and functional hoodies provide additional warmth without being unnecessarily heavy or bulky. Classic long-sleeve shirts and sweatshirts complement the collection for leisure, travel, and life around the harbour and marina.
Details such as stretch inserts, adjustable hoods, short or full-length zips, and practical pockets make it easier to adapt to changing temperatures. Models with UV protection support long periods outdoors, while odour-inhibiting technologies can increase comfort during training, regattas, or multi-day travel. This allows long-sleeve shirts and sweaters to be used specifically as a close-fitting layer, midlayer, or standalone top.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Long-Sleeve Shirts, Sweaters and Hoodies
What Is the Difference Between a Long-Sleeve Shirt and a Sweater?
A long-sleeve shirt is generally lighter and thinner than a sweater. It can be worn directly against the skin or as the first additional layer. A sweater usually has greater material thickness and therefore provides more warmth. Technical versions, however, can be significantly lighter than classic cotton sweatshirts.
Which Long-Sleeve Shirt Is Suitable for Sailing?
For active sailing days, technical long-sleeve shirts made from breathable, stretch, and quick-drying material are recommended. In strong sunlight, a model with integrated UV protection is a sensible choice. Those sailing in changing temperatures also benefit from a short zip for ventilation. Classic cotton long-sleeve shirts are more suitable for dry conditions, the yacht club, or the time before and after sailing, as cotton retains more moisture and dries more slowly.
What Is the Advantage of a Tec Sweater?
A Tec sweater combines lightweight warmth with a high level of freedom of movement. Technical stretch materials are less bulky than heavy sweatshirt fabrics and often dry faster. This makes a Tec sweater suitable as a midlayer under a softshell or sailing jacket as well as a standalone top in dry conditions.
Summary
Long-sleeve shirts and sweaters for women and men offer flexible clothing solutions for sailing, outdoor activities, travel, and the yacht club. Technical long-sleeve shirts support active use with breathability, quick-drying properties, and, depending on the model, integrated UV protection. Tec sweaters and functional hoodies provide additional warmth in cooler temperatures and can be worn as a midlayer or standalone layer. Classic sweatshirts, long-sleeve polos, and cotton long-sleeve shirts complement the range for leisure, crew appearances, and maritime looks on land. Combined with a base layer, functional vest, softshell, or sailing jacket, they create a flexibly adaptable clothing system. Since 1991, Marinepool has applied its experience from watersports to functional, comfortable, and versatile tops.
